i recently bough a 5Dc and i am having two issues i cant figure out. i tried to look in the manual i downloaded but couldnt really find anything. maybe i missed it.

1. it all of a sudden started defaulting to -1 AEB when i wanna take pics and it only goes away if i turn off and turn on the camera but it will shortly go back to -1 AEB on the menu

2. when i view my images taken, i now get the bars on top and bottom like you would see in a wide screen with the pic in between the bars. anyone know how to get these things back to normal.

also...i am having a hard time understanding what is the difference between turning the camera to "ON" and turning it to the line that points to the wheel. sorry if these are noob questions but i am just learning.

Images are not visible.

The switch by the back wheel turns on the back wheel. Off, On, Wheel on.

not sure why cause they are linked correctly and they preview fine.

figured out the AEB issue. i had accidentally changed it using the wheel while half pressing the shutter in AV mode. did a search and found i need to half press shutter and set it back to 0 using the wheel.

in the same notion, it also now makes sense that i am not supposed to use the 'ON to wheel line' power button option unless i am shooting in full manual. if one is shooting in AV or TV then the wheel is not needed and so one should just turn to 'ON" position on power button.

the 5Dc appears to have the flash compensation on the lcd and not the exposure compensation like i thought.

still have to figure out why the pics display with the bars on bottom and top though.

The owner's manual is downloadable. It sounds like you didn't get any with the camera.

You haven't accidentially set automatic exposure bracketing but exposure compensation. That's what you do with the rear dial. Thus it's needed also when using automatic modes like P, Tv and Av. But as you've now found out, the power switch is also used to block the rear dial from doing changes to exposure compensation. It can still be used in menus and such stuff.

Isn't the picture normal? Cameras having 4:3 ratio screens can't display 3:2 ratio images without bars at the edges. These empty spaces can be used to display information about the image without having the information inside the image. The 5D has a 4:3 screen.

I sold my 5Dc over a year ago, but I believe Anders is correct about the aspect ratio of the 5Dc LCD.

Yes, both the 5D and the 5D Mark II has 4:3 ratio screens. It's just a bit bigger on the 5D Mark II. It wasn't until the 5D Mark III that camera series got a 3:2 ratio rear LCD.

Pressing the INFO button will in most cases place data about the image in these bars. Then they don't look like wasted space, so they "feel" more natural and useful.
