Canon Price Watch has a link for 20% off the Adobe CC Photography Plan (Lightroom + Photoshop). For the first year, you get it for $7.99/month vs the normal $9.99/month. New customers only.

Say no to software subscription.

The world is changing and it's moving towards software subscription. You might as well get used to it and accept it.

Thx but, no thanks.

The fewer people who subscribe & the more that let the software companies know that they are dissatisfied with the subscription concept the more demand there will be for other software companies to code alternatives.

I'm on Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 5. Very worried about going to subscription only, but $8/mo is a great deal.

Trying to hold out as long as possible before going to CC.

Reading the fine print, this is only for the first year and then it will continue at the regular price, which is currently $9.99.

Adobe has been very consistent at keeping the subscription price at $9.99 and there is no indication that will change anytime soon, but the thought of it ever going up can make one nervous.

I don't like the fact that everything stops working once you stop to pay. If I could keep the software at it's then current level and still use it after I cancel it I'd sign up, but I'm not signing up for life. Great for a business though, as you can write off the cost for the sub every year. But I'm not a business and as long as LR is sold with full license and PS CS6 keeps working, I won't even look at this option.

Bingo. That's the big issue.

I know we are off topic now, but since we are off ...

I don't have a problem with paying a monthly, or at whatever frequency, fee for an ongoing service, such as web hosting, or streaming, etc. Because it is ongoing, every time I use it, I am consuming some resource (bandwidth, storage, etc.).

But for an image editing software, it should work on my computer when I install it. Sure, I also don't mind paying for upgrades to get newer features. But if from month to month it is the same thing (mostly, except for occasional updates), why should I keep paying? There are also times when I don't use it for a few months in a row, in such case why should I pay at all?

Sure. Let's all line up and eat what the corporation feeds us. Nothing bad has ever come from that, right?

only subscriptions I have are for magazines and cable/phone/internet. And those I'd expect to stop working when I cancel, but software? Why? Leave me with what I have at that point, charge me extra if I decide to sign up again later on, fine with me. But paying the next 40 or what years to use software which might provide new features I'd never even use? Why? It's not a service IMO. PS already does more than I'll ever find out, and I can't really imagine what fantastic must have new feature they might ever add, that's why I stay with CS6 and hope it'll work for a long time. Of course, eventually it won't work with a system upgrade years from now, but by then I'm sure other options have shown up, as they already do.

For a business it's great, different tax write off, but for me it just isn't a useful option.

Haha, I didn't mean to start such a debate. Everyone brings up good points and I agree. For those that do want to use the subscription service, at least it'll save them a couple bucks.
