I'm looking to do some reflective product shots. Does anyone have any links on where to buy like a 2x2' sized piece of black or other colored glass or plexi.

thanks,
Michael

If you get a piece of clear glass and paint one side yourself with flat black spray paint, it'll work well.

Acrylic/Plexi will also work, though the reflection is a lot more dim and subtle compared to glass. Look up local plastics suppliers for black acrylic/plexi, I found a local place called "Plastics America" that got me a 4'x8' sheet of 1/8" black acrylic for about $140.

Shoot from far away and a low angle for best reflections.

This is what I do. You get a much better reflection than plexi.

You'll get a stronger reflection from glass than plexi, however, if you're using clear glass or clear plexi over black you will end up with double reflections. This can be an issue with smaller products at acute angles. Any sign shop in your area should be able to get you sheet acrylic in just about any color, and for less than a set shop would charge.

That said, I still use clear plexi over black, I'm just careful about the angles I shoot at. ;)

In the past I have used the shiny glazed ceramic tile, available in many colors. But usually the largest you can get is 12" x 12".

My first real camera was a Canon F1. That was a long time ago.

I just saw the roll up sheet Peter Hurley sells, Looks like it adds a great reflection for portraits etc. is that most likely the acrylic plexi?
