5D Mark iii RAW photos not recognised in Lightroom 3

Hi,

I just got a brand new 5D Miii and before the excitement could die down I noticed that the RAW files produced by it are not readable in Lightroom 3.
Bummer.

So what software would you recommend for processing 5D M iii RAW files?
(I shoot only in RAW)

Is it worth upgrading to Lightroom 4 or whichever is the latest version? Or is there any new entrant in the market that
I'm not aware of? I'm not looking to spend more than $200 (if possible!)

Latest standalone version of Lightroom is 6. $80 to upgrade, not sure though if you can upgrade from v3.
Also, there's Lightroom CC is you purchase the photography package which also gets you Photoshop CC.

Does your version of Lightroom allow for free updates that will recognize the 5D III RAW files?

No updates to V3 will work with the 5DIII - The OP will need LR 4.1 or later. Latest version is v6.


Another option is to convert to DNG files and import these into LR3 [FREE]
(I'd keep the CR2 files in case you need them at a later date with newer software though).

Best bet is to get LR6 IMO. [NOT FREE!] - This article may help in trying find out how to get it from Adobe.
