The only thing about it that interests me is the appearance that in the aftermath of the accident, authorities diverted resources to issue traffic citations.

"The motorists in question are likely to be charged with using a phone at the wheel"...

And the problem with that is...?

Takes rubbernecking to a whole new level...

Cause all it would take is 2 fools doing the same thing one behind the other, to cause another accident, all for what...so they can post to instragram, G+ etc...

Brainless car drivers using a camera / phone whilst driving, and an advert that automatically starts playing audio? That'll be another site to add to the blacklist...

Here in B.C. Canada you can get a ticket and substantial fine for just checking your phone while stopped at a red light.

Same as Ontario.

I can see why they'd go after the photo-taking drivers - in addition to the phone/camera use (distracted driving), I think Ontario has laws designed to prevent rubbernecking at accident sites.

^ This.

Whole-heartedly agree. And the headline is - as expected - overly dramatized by the media to gather attention. The drivers were not ticketed for taking a picture. They were ticketed for using their mobiles while driving, which is against the law. Again, good.

Kudos to Great Britain for having the nads to pass an anti-mobile law, and the nads to aggressively enforce it. I wish they would do the same over here.

Like I always say (and I wish I could find a bumper sticker that says it): "Put down your effing phone and drive!"

You want that come to California, pretty sure the 40+ new officers our PD just hired were financed on Cell phone fines.

I'm aware of the law, and not disagreeing with you, but where were the fines issued? My daughter moved to CA months ago (southern - san berdo area) and she says nobody around there enforces it.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE. I was stuck behind a moron that was texting while driving, he repeatedly drove off the road, drove into the other lane, sped up, slowed down.... totally clueless. What finally got his attention was when he drove off the road and a utility pole separated the mirror from his car. It's maddening to be stuck behind those idiots, and I abhor headlines such as the one in the OP which hide the fact of what that these people are being ticketed for.

(hah.... I just had a notice pop up because I used the word 'idiot' reminding me not to post personal attacks - I'm pretty sure the guy I called an idiot isn't on POTN).

Bumper Sticker heck, I want a flashing sign in my drivers side window that says that, and see how long it takes the fools to even notice it...

And Contrary to popular opinion..you are NOT special"

Personally I would like a stronger sentence in Colorado for causing a death than a $10k fine and one year in jail. Lost a family member this year because a guy doing 65mph couldn't get his face out of his phone in order to see the car in front of him slowing down to make a turn. Never. Braked.

Do we even start talking about the clueless pedestrians who walk out in front of traffic while their noses are stuck to their cell screens!
