Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions pertaining to the subject:

1. WD My Passport Wireless users - is there any problem emptying RAW cr2 files from the SD card to the WD drive without a PC? I also heard there's a need to use the MY Cloud App - is it available for Android too?

1b. Does the Passport Wireless support UHS-3 cards?

1c. As this model has been out for some time, any news of a successor coming soon? I'll only need to use the drive in September.

2. Is there any cheaper alternative other than the Passport Wireless? Would be even better if it can support CF cards.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The only devices that I am aware of that support compact flash are more expensive than the WD Passport. The Digital Foci can be had for $150. The Hyperdrive series start at about $250 and that's with you supplying your own SATA drive. The Nexto backups start at $400. There was a device from Canon for about $300 but I'm not sure if it is still available.
Cheapest solution that I can come up with is a USB card reader like the Pixelflash, a USB OTG cable and your Android phone. The OTG cable allows you to mount the CF card as a drive on the phone and from there you could send files to the Passport over WiFi. Not ideal but workable.

who gives a rat crap how much gear you can list?

ignoring the CF criteria, are there other more cost effective methods than the WD Passport Wireless? I've heard that the transfer speeds using the built in SD reader is terrible.

Get an USB OTG cable (stands for USB on the go) for the Android phone or tablet and a small powered USB hub. You can then connect a suitable card reader CF, SD or both and an external hard drive and transfer the files from the card to the HD using the file manager app that comes with Android. You can buy a RAW viewer app if you also want to view the files on the tablet.

Providing you've got a suitable portable hard drive already this is by far the cheapest solution.

Somehow I always forget that you can connect a powered hub to the OTG cable. So that's 2 votes for Android and card reader.

I vaguely recalled trying this before and it seems that my Samsung note 3 could not read the external HDD, despite the fact that I have a powered USB hub.

Did anyone else have successful results?

I haven't USED it yet, but I got the RavPower Filehub. I at least tried it out and it will work as expected! :)
