I have a Novoflex 19 ballhead (external link) and am considering biting the bullet and buying the Canon Tripod Mount Ring D for my 100L macro even though it seems crazy overpriced.

The plan is to rotate the mount ring and mount the ball head on the lens, what would be the best way to do this?

The only way i can think about is trying to find a screw that fits both the ballhead and the tripod ring?
Something similar to this (external link)

Followup question:
Can attaching a ballhead+flash to the tripod ring cause strain on the lens?
Or is it safe to do something like this?

Looking at my 700D i wonder if its even possible to rotate the tripodring 180/360 degrees around the lens considering the top part of the camera extends out over the lens...?

Consider the Fotodiox ring. It's solid.

However, it sounds more like you need a rotating flash bracket. The tripod ring won't clear the built-in flash overhang, as you suspected, although it likely will with as little as 12mm of extension.

Take a look at Custom Brackets and Newton Camera Brackets.
