Back in the days of Windows 95, XP, and even Vista, when using Windows Picture Viewer the Right Click menu had a "Send To" option.

I would have a "To Process" folder nested in my Send To folder, and then I could just click through the my pictures, full screen, using windows picture viewer. When I get to one that I like, I would "Right Click", then choose "Send To" and send a copy of the image to a "To Process" folder.

Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, has removed the "Send To" option from the Right Click Context Menu. Now that my XP machine finally died, and I had to replace it with a Windows 8 machine, this workflow is no longer and option.

I know that there are lots of aftermarket image viewers, Infraview, Polyview, etc. Does anyone know if any of them incorporate a type of one-handed sort of "Full Screen - Right Click - Send To" method of copying the image to a destination folder?

I use a Win7 desktop and a Win8 laptop. Both still have the "Send To..." in the right-click menu.

Lucky You!

My laptop is using Windows 8.1, 64bit and THIS is what my Right Click context menu looks like. Notice no Send To, and the only option with a submenu is "Open With", which only allows programs. That is, I cannot "open" the file to a folder.

I see two issues. First, you are not looking at a file, you are looking at some program's rendition of that file. Second, if you use the 'Open File Location' option, it should take you to the file itself, where your Windows 'right-click' option of SEND TO should be available. An extra step, for sure, but it gets you there with a minimum of fuss. I use Lightroom and Picasa. Both of them work like this.

Huh?

I am looking at the picture.

Not a file, not a rendition of a file, but the actual image itself in Windows Picture Viewer.

What I need, is to be able to right click on it and choose "Send To", or some equivalent command, to copy the jpg to a folder of my choice. Just like it was in 95-Vista. I am sorry that that was not clear to you in my original post.

But yes, what I need is to view images full screen, next, next, next, oh - I like this one - Right Click - Send To "To Process" folder, next, next....

Make sense now?

Is that how Lightroom or Picasa works? Or is there anything that you know of that works like this?

For comparison, this is and example of what an XP machine gives when you right click on an image. Notice the presence of the Send To option. I have added a couple of folders to my Send To folder, Art Photos (those I think are of medium to high aesthetic value), and Snapshots, for simple memorabilia. When I choose either one of those folders, then a copy of the jpg is created in the destination folder.

In this way, I can cull 1000 images down to the 20 or 30 I am interested in following up on.

THIS is what I am talking about.

OK, I did enough digging around to find out lots of other folks have the same complaint. WinXP to Win7/8 PhotoViewers are very different. I have several programs installed that can open photos: PSE, LR, DPP 3 & 4, Paint, Picasa, and maybe others. None of them appear to do what you want. LR, Picasa, and PSE all have the 'locate file on disk' option, which will get you to the DELETE or SEND TO menu. But that does add the extra clicks. Sorry I couldn't help.

If it matters, I do my culling and sorting in Lightroom v5.7. It is very good at making folders, moving files, and deleting files on the fly. That is not exactly what you want, but it is very close.

FastStone Image Viewer (free) is my hub for anything graphic.

This is the right-click menu. When you select Copy to folder [C] or Move to folder [M], you get a list of last used or favorite destination folders to choose from. Of course, you can also Browse for any destination folder.

Thanks! I just downloaded and installed FastStone Image Viewer. Quick, easy, free. I like all of those. It was able to access and display my entire LR library in just a few seconds. I played with it for about 3 minutes and am thoroughly impressed. OP, I think this is what you want.

Glad you like it.

Have you already run the mouse pointer against each screen edge (in full-screen) to see all the menus?

Yes! Very cool. I am glad a pop-up told me about that feature.

Oh, and it does .CR2, also. Nice.

FastStone look pretty awesome.

I the meantime, I did work out a kluge that took care of the needs for today.

I simply installed XP in VirtualBox so now I have an XP machine running under the Win8 machine, and I was able to do a first cull of my vacation shots for my wife.

Will definitely look at FastStone.

Agedbriar, looking at the screencap you posted - from there do you just rightarrow to the next image, or do you have to close that preview window and then click on the next thumbnail?

You copy, move or delete your picture and then right-arrow to the next one (or choose any one from the row of thumbnails that you can make temporarily appear along the top) without leaving the full-screen view.
