Tried this. Works like a charm. I may run this in my cards, before importing to LR. LR does not have this functionality in "IMPORT" mode.

It's even color managed if you so set it. :-)

Just quoting to get your attention. I see that .cr2 edits are non-destructive; you have to save edits as JPG file. Are JPG edits also non-destructive?

An alternative option would be to not move the images at all.
I used to do what the OP does, but then discovered a much quicker and easier method that didn't require moving files into different folders (and then back again/into another folder once edited).

I import all the images to my HD using Lightroom, which puts them in a dated folder. I then review the images (you can do this is the normal window or full screen) using the left/right arrows just as the OP does (so far so similar) but instead of moving files I just press "X" (to mark an image for deletion) or "2" (awards the image two stars).

When I have finished I just press Ctrl + Backspace to delete all the image marked with an X. Then to see only the images I want to process (the ones marked with 2 stars) I just click on the filter by attribute = 2 stars and all the zero star images (not bad enough to delete but not worth processing yet) disappear, leaving only the "to process" images.

That is pretty much what I do. I can do the first culling so much faster in Lightroom that it is the only method I use. I usually make two passes - one to delete completely the totally trash ones - out of focus etc., and then use the star method to mark basically yes/maybe/no.

With the price of external hard drives so cheap now - 6TB under $300 - space is not an issue, biggest problem is to keep the number of images under control so you can find things.

My first real camera was a Canon F1. That was a long time ago.

Yeah, Merge - there was no response in the other heading, and I got an answer here. Thanks.
