I shot an event at our curling club last night using a Canon G7x and in downloading the images, see that they are only recorded as jpegs, not raw. I'm looking at the camera and can't find where I can even change it to RAW/acr files. I've googled and found something about not being able to shoot/transfer files when using Camera Window, which I DO have downloaded on to my phone. My question is: What do I have to do so I can shoot RAW files on this camera? Delete the Camera Window app? I'm not stranger to compact cameras, it isn't typically a big deal to set your camera settings, but I don't see anything in the manual even using the word RAW, nor does it seem to be anywhere in the settings.

Any help would be appreciated. I went back to Canon compacts from my Sony RX100 (and i LOVED that little beast) because its electronics died after 1.5 years and it pissed me off so bad, I refused to buy the RX100 iii. I really want to be able to shoot RAW on this G7x, if I could just figure out how. sue

Do I understand correctly that you downloaded the files to your phone wirelessly, not to your computer? If so, and IIRC, Canon only transfers the JPEGs since most phone software doesn't understand all the assorted flavours of RAW out there. Try transferring (either direct from camera or via a card reader) direct to your computer. A card reader would be preferable since then you could look at the card and verify the presence of .CR2 files.
Page 90 of the G7X manual addresses choosing JPEG, RAW, or RAW+JPEG file formats.

no, I downloaded them to my computer. I don't know why i even bothered putting the wireless "camera window" app on my phone, I don't really care about that. Regardless, shouldn't one of the options, menu settings on the phone say "RAW"?

Unless things have changed, Camera Window and the newer Camera Connect software will not transfer RAW files to a phone even if the camera was set to take RAW images. RAW images are huge compared to JPEG files and transfer times would be unusually long. I think you should be able to get the RAW files directly from the camera or by using a card reader connected to a PC.

I don't want to transfer RAW images anywhere but to my computer. I should rephrase the question: How do I set my Canon G7x to shoot RAW files. Anybody who has this camera will likely know the answer, or I"m hoping. I've been buying cameras, both DSLRs and compact cameras for years and I always set them to shoot RAW. This camera is a mystery to me.

The manual suggests pressing the FUNC/SET button, scrolling to JPG settings, and selecting from JPG , RAW, JPG & RAW. See p. 90. My G15 works the same way. On the G15, I can configure the PRINT button to do JPG/RAW/BOTH.

No problem. I don't read manuals. I download PDF and search. Much faster. Happy shooting!
