I'm on the fence, but leaning toward upgrading from my current 5D2. I keep hearing that this camera is tailored to studio work, but wouldn't the extra MP also benefit those who shoot landscapes? Larger prints & the ability to crop while maintaining more resolution could be a benefit to any photography field.

I was thinking of just going to the 5D3, but I originally bought the 5D2 over the 5D3 as the cost difference didn't add up with landscape shooting. I have a 7D2 when I need speed & reach.

Are you upgrading?

Thank you.

Heya,

I'm holding out at this point. While the added data can be very useful, I would have hoped for better low ISO performance in terms of dynamic range and being able to push files. Doesn't seem like the 5DS/R was able to make any gains at all over the 6D/5D3 in regards to that. So, waiting to see them release a sensor that has better low ISO shadow pushing and dynamic range with a high resolution.

Very best,

Good points! I'll have to do some research as to when the 5D4 is expected to hit the streets. Perhaps the 5D4 will have better dynamic range, but I'd be surprise to also have 50MP. But, my luck if I buy the 5DS R will be it had both and released within a year, LoL.

Thanks for your feedback.

Admittedly I haven't done any in-depth research on the 5DS/5DSR, but from what I've been hearing the biggest change is the increase in MP. I'm not a big "Gotta have the best high ISO performance" kind of guy, that being said I need something more than just upping the MP count for me to make the leap.

I think the 5ds/r use the same sensor, more or less, as the 7d mk2 (or mk II), so not the larger pixels of the 5d mk III. Anyway, here is a pretty lengthy discussion of what issues you need to consider.

I upgraded to the 5dsR! simply because of the pixels. I own a 5d3 and i'm very happy with what it can do; however, I needed to go big with my prints for my clients.

Not getting the 5Ds. Maybe some time in the future, as a wildlife camera before my next wildlife trip. For landscapes, I need as many megapixels as I can get, but also need dynamic range.

Looking at the A7rII, but am waiting to see what Sony brings out in their 'pro-featured' A9 (or whatever they decide to call it) body first.

I am in the same camp.

Got my 5D2 just when the 5D3 was released because it was so much cheaper and 5D3 had not so many upgrades i need for my shooting.

But now iam thinkging going A7 with metabones because of the dynamic range or just add mft system for that price tag and keep my 5D2. But still unsure if its worth it and how many lenses will work with the meta...

5ds or 5d3 still dont make much sense for me from a spending point of view...
