I wanted to use this remote for "selfies" or pics of my better half and myself when using a tripod. The problem I am having is it releases the shutter but doesnt autofocus the lens for me. Is it suppose to focus as well prior to relesing the shutter and if so how do I get it to work that way?? I had set custom control to shutter button. I was using the body in BBF mode prior

The RC-6 (or any IR remote) should auto focus when used. If it doesn't, you probably still have something set up wrong.

I will have to see what I have set up. I know I changed the custom control to use the shutter button. I tried to hold it down half way on the remote button but it would not AF Then when i took the shot it still did not AF. I will have to try again later today when I get home from work

Should be easy to test. Press the shutter and if it focuses, you have it set right for the remote.

There is no half-press on the remote. You set the camera to self timer/remote, and then use the RC-6 to release the shutter. Normally the camera focuses prior to taking the photo by itself. Are you using One Shot AF?

I'll check mine when I get home. Maybe it isn't an RC-6

Edit - Ah I see the RC-6 is a wireless remote. Mine is a RS80 it seems.

That's something completely different. Then there is a half-press. If you set the camera to focus on the AF-ON button only, you'll get no AF, since a half-press of the trigger button doesn't AF in that case.
