Flashpoint http://www.adorama.com/fp620mpwk.html (external link)

Elinchrom http://www.adorama.com/EL20852KIT.html (external link)

Really the difference is the fact that the Flashpoint requires a 3rd party wireless system. The Odin runs $400 so its really only $200 cheaper (Unless I went Yongnuo)
Which would be the better deal? Flashpoint turns into $900 and the Elinchrom is $1075.

Im still considering Alien Bees but I prefer Adorama because I can use paypal.

I also have considered adding another speedlight ( I have a 468ex ii and picking up a set of cheap umbrellas and stands) and just being a cheapie until I can save up for a more expensive set up. it'd cost about $300

Personally, I wouldn't go with the house-brand. Stick with name-brands and you have a wide variety of compatible accessories. If you intend to do interior portraiture, the RX4 will be too hot, since the D-Lite RX-series only has a five-stop power range (25Ws @ minimum output). Even 25Ws is still pretty bright, and you'll be forced to shoot at very high numerical apertures (e.g., f/16 @ ISO 100) using typical modifiers. The Elinchrom D-Lite RX2s are better suited to the typical home studio (12.5Ws @ minimum output). Too bad you missed Adorama's Elinchrom sale prior to Memorial Day when the RX2s were priced at only $209 each.

I just did a little research and found that same sentiment. The rx2 used is only $619 and needs a $4 battery and modeling bulbs

I'd choose your system based on the mods you want for it.

I really like Elinchrom's modifiers--they're the lightest modifiers on the market due to their unique reflector fabric design, and the Rotalux speedring makes assembly much easier. I recently switched to all-Elinchrom modifiers and I'm much happier now.

The octas in particular include an Elinchrom frosted deflector (which fits into the umbrella receiver in the reflector) so that you can drop your output a bit more. Even when I used my D-Lite RX2s at minimum power, with a 39" Elinchrom octa, I still had to use the deflector to drop the output since I tend to place my sources as closely as possible to my subject. The only downside to Elinchrom softboxes is that they only offer gridded diffuser panels (they integrate the grid into the diffuser, which entirely replaces the standard front-diffuser) for a few select models.

The 39 DO is one my favorites and most versatile mod. I agree with you - I would forget Eli's soft boxes - nothing unique or remarkable about them. I have Chimera strips that are great and Photoflex makes nice soft boxes too.
