50mm Filters

So I ordered a 50mm 1.8g and am receiving a free Vivitar 3-Piece UV/CPL/ND8 58mm Filter Kit. Now I have researched UV filters before and came to the conclusion in digital the purpose they serve is a front element cover, which is useful.

But what about the Circular Polarizer Filter and Neutral Density Filter?

You will probably use the UV and the CPL and to a very lesser extent, the ND. Unless you're shooting moving water or seek a real fine DOF, the ND will stay in your bag.

I find that I use the CPL very frequently as my favorite type of shooting is landscape. Otherwise, I would leave the UV filter on permanently.

Creative filters such as ND's and CPL's aside... I just use lens hoods for protection - though will screw on a UV filter for protection if conditions are harsh (particularly dusty or at the beach) and then only high quality ones so as to minimize unwanted flare.
