I just bought a large Fotodiox octagon softbox (46" i think?) that I found at a local Goodwill store but I have no idea how to attach + use it with my Speedlites. I've always used umbrellas, so I'm clueless on how to attach this to a light stand to use with with one of my 600EX's. What kind of mounting hardware/brackets will I need? I've attached a pic of the softbox with some of the back peeled back to show what I'm dealing with so far.

I believe the speedring insert can be replaced with a different speedring. I recently went through something similar with a Fotodiox Ez-pro Octa. The mount that I purchased was a Cheetah Stand
Pro S adapter. Attached are two photos.
In the first photo, the speedring on the left replaced the adapter on the right.

The second photo shows the modifier mounted to the adapter and a speedlight.

Hope this helps,

Thats a 144mm Diameter Balcar insert ring and with out changing the insert ring or drilling some new mounting holes your kinda out of luck. You can bungie a flash in the box and tap one of the rod holes to 1/4 or 3/8 and mount an umbrella bracket on the speed ring.

Youll need an adapter. That mount is designed to hang off the front of a strobe. You coukd adapt or bungee a flash into it, but youll have to attach a stand to the speedri g of the softbox.

Nice find for $19.99. I should go check out my Goodwill one of these days for camera gear.

Pop-out the Alien Bees speed ring insert and pop-in a Bowens insert, then use the Godox S-Type clamp and you're good to go.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I'll try to find a Bowens + Godox clamp and hope that works

Just be careful to price things so that you dont end up spending more adapting a non folding softbox than you would purchasing a folding softbox better suited to speedlite use. you could always sell your new find to someone with an alien bee strobe and put the cash toward a better solution for your needs.
