I've known for some time that there were foxes roaming my neighborhood, but I've never been in any kind of position to photograph them. That is until the fox pictured below started showing up in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. I really didn't think that bird seed was on their menu, but the trough in the 1st image is filled with millet, and the trough in the 2nd image contains sunflower meats. Both images were taken through extra glass and over deck handrails simply as documentation of the animal; and it certainly shows.

I was somewhat disheartened by the poor condition of the fox, but attributed it to tough suburban living. Then, while out tending my bird feeders about a week ago, the cause of the poor condition revealed itself.....actually themselves as there were 3 kits with her. I've only ever been able to catch 1 at a time, but I certainly have a new found respect for Momma fox and the sacrifices she makes!

I always find it amazing when Mother Nature proves that "where there's a will there's a way". I just hope Mom and Dad fox can keep their kits safe from the pair of coyotes I saw yesterday.
