I have found myself bored from my everyday work of concept photography and model work

I really wanna get some fun stuff

Just ordered a helios 40-2 brand new for 374

stoked on that
I wanna get some fun old manual lenses or something

I really wanna get a tilt shift but I was thinking about trying to find a tilt shift adapter. Not sure of good ones tho.

I love old black and white styles and that is what I have been shooting lately.

Not sure what that means to you but yeah!
Also, any new lenses out that are worth looking at? I prefer primes and I really love manual focus so I don't care about AF.
I wanted to get a 85mm zeiss planar ZE.

EF mount for my Canon 6D!

See this thread

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1431214

Note the links to other lenses on the bottom right of the link as well.

That Helios is a great example, however sometimes weird lenses fall off into obscurity because there are substantially better optical formulas on more popular lenses.
Sharper, easier to manufacture, and therefore have a lower cost.

THe is a sample thread with many different manual lenses on EOS but the title escapes me.
It has many sample posts from many older and different lenses.

Lens baby offers a whole bunch of fun odd lenses to play with. I often use them to do something different, odd, fun. Or an ultra wide and forcing distortions.

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

Heya,

Basically start looking into inexpensive mass-produced lenses that are easily adapted to Canon.

Some note worthy lenses to look into:

Helios 44-2 (or any variant)
Super Takumar 28 F3.5
Super Takumar 50 F1.4
Tamron 28 F2.8 (adaptall 2)
Jupiter 9 (85mm F2)
Yashica 50 (F1.4, F1.7, F1.9, etc)

But be careful. Vintage glass, while it looks "inexpensive" can get expensive. The more rare, the more weird, the most costly. Like the Trioplan 100 F2.8, it's a "must have" for people into weird bokeh. But it's more expensive than some L lenses. Some lenses have gotten so popular again, that they have gone up in cost (like the Helios 40-2, the 85mm version, it's stupid expensive for what it is and not worth it now).

I use my Helios 44-2 regularly in the rotation of lenses. I love the weird bokeh.

My next weird bokeh lens, if I ever manage to win a bid, will be a Trioplan, but maybe one of the shorter ones like the F2.9 red V one.

I have a lot of vintage glass, bought more than I should have, as it gets costly fast. But it can be fine to buy a $10 lens and fool with it.

I mainly research a lens for sample images, and I don't care about sharpness, I'm mostly looking at vintage lenses for the weird way they render bokeh, or other odd optical flaws that make them more interesting. I also love the look of an old lens on a modern body when you're out shooting. I've had a few people recognize glass and say "Woa, I've not see those for 30 years!"

Very best,

I love weird lenses too :-)

First: Your Canon EOS system is a better choice than Nikon DSLR, but much worse than Sony Alpha 7 series.

For tilt you need a medium format lens and a tilt adapter. I am not very happy with my cheap Ebay tilt adapter on the Sony Alpha 7II. No smooth tilt correction and small tilt angle. My DIY tilt lenses (external link)for Canon Crop DSLR where much more fun.

The Meyer Trioplan 100 (external link) is in fact very popular for its bokeh and glow. It is my favourite lens.

IMAGE: http://www.4photos.de/galerie/Natur/slides/Soap-Bubble-Bokeh.jpg

Lenses like the Nikon Defocus Control Nikkor 105mm/2 and 135mm/2 or cheap Meyer Primotar 135 give soap bubble bokeh (external link) too. Or some cheap projection lenses. Other lenses gives such background structure too, but all a bit different: Meyer Primoplan 58/1.9, Petri 55mm/1.8 (at least the older ones), Accura Diamtic 35mm/2.8, Wirgin Edixar 85mm/1.9 and some others.
You can even modify an old Sigma lens to give you bokeh control like the Nikon Defocus Control (external link)!

Mirror lenses could be fun too, especially the shorter ones!
The Minolta 250 shall be great, but is very expensive. I work with other mirror lenses. But sharpness could be a problem.

IMAGE: http://www.4photos.de/galerie/Natur/slides/Blumenfotografie-Spiegeltele.jpg

For special bokeh I even started tinkering my own lenses, here an example of a really weird lens:

IMAGE: http://www.4photos.de/galerie/Natur/slides/Damhirsch.jpg

Or a bit less weird, but with special pronunced bokeh

The Meyer 100 f/2.8 is now available again as a new lens, built in Germany. But it is Eur 1800 and available in a range of mounts, including EOS and Nikon F. There is a thread about it here.

My Kilfitt 300/4 Pan-Tele is relatively weird by today's designs. Focus is either rack and pinion or rotary twist (or a combination of both) and it's around 50 years old.

1800 euro?
where did you get that number? i must have missed it.

that is very expensive versus the vintage glass that it is supposed to "emulate"

Sorry my mistake, I had been looking at the other lenses they had on there and confused myself! Unfortunately a sometimes easy thing to do. Even then I was was wrong on the price, as the price that made me sit up was actually Eur 1999 for the 35/50mm f/0.95 lenses, although they are only in CSC mounts. I am surprised that Leica M mount is not included, but maybe the mechanical coupling needed for the focus system makes it difficult.

Images look like this:

Not too bad for a 10 quid ($15) lens with no glass!

I adapted an XA lens to my mirrorless. Currently the only converted one. A lot of people said it was impossible.
