Hi all,

this summer it seems that I will be going to Germany and touring the "Romantic Rhine" and the Mosel Valley.
I will be with the family and probably bringing most of my gear (below).

I may at that time also have a longer lens - but that hasn't yet been established: either the S150-600 c (most likely wont get the sport version) or the canon 100-400II. Those are all maybe.

but I am less asking about gear and more asking about ideas for the area of photographic significance
or coolness factor! :)

Any ideas of "can't miss" places?

many thanks!!

Drachenfels castle near Koenigswinter (close to Bonn) might be of interest.

If you get the chance, you might want to check out Trier. It's the oldest city in Germany, with ties to the Roman Empire. A quick jaunt into Luxembourg is well worth the time, too.

Rhine has castles,, but the Mosel valley is extraordinarily beautiful.

thanks all for the ideas
i have been compiling a list of historical interests
and sites for the kids
i was hoping also to get some photographic ideas up and beyond the "by chance"
(which i love - don't get me wrong)...but sometimes - just being aware of a place - it can be 100m away and not see it....
if you understand....

I don't know how old the kids are and if they like to walk/hike...
The area is rich with hiking (and cycling) paths.

If you haven't looked into it you might want to check the below link for trail and places of interest.

something that says "click" and some strange white tubes with glass in it..

Search Google for "Moselschleife" images, probably you like it :-)

Look here for castels you like:

Burg Eltz looks very good.
