Have been playing with incense smoke and came up with this idea. All three 'animals' are real smoke curls. The tree is one smoke stream duplicated and then mirrored.

1. Your initial thoughts?
2. One or more 'creatures?
3. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I like the idea and some of the "animals" are cool. I think you should keep going with this and you could end up with something stunning. I think the "tree" is the weakest element as it is not very tree like.

I dig the more animal look - helps reenforce the fact with more of them in the scene.

Can you go into your process capturing these shots?

Cheers!

Jeff

Sure.
I mounted an incense stick in some styrofoam.
I place a flash behind and below the smoke which was fired wirelessly

Flash was a 1/4 - 1/8 power,
I used 100mm lens at IOS250
at 1/100s but I varies my aperture to get best DOF

Lots of shots and to mix it up, I gently waved boards (including large ones) to move the smoke trails

The animals are all sections of smoke trails.

PP consisted of RAW processing, mainly on adjusting highlights, shadows and clarity, as well as some noise reduction, as well as erasing some extraneous smoke.

cheers, Paul

I really dig this final, Paul. The tree seems skeletal, almost rigid, but also delicate and flower like.
