I am not really convinced that because my current 24-70mm lens is in group B of lenses in regards to the AF points (see 5D3 manual), but I am worried about a couple of things about the first 24-70mm lens
1/ It's slow in focusing
2/ Very heavy, it hasn't got the nickname "the brick" for nothing

Though I am also wary that I could be missing out on the extra Dual Cross AF Points because I take photos of mainly live events which involves subjects that mostly move a lot

I have seen other people usage of the same combo, 5D3+24-70mm(mkI), but I am not convinced that my lens, since it is nearly 4 years old, and it is the most heavily used lens in my bag (not to say it's been through a few bumps and bruises along the way, one that caused me to be in agony as my bag slid down a bus' staircase)

Or, should I just wait until what the 5D4 (if and when it is released) specifications are?

I've got the 5D3 and the first generation 24-70(Brick) combo. I wasn't aware that the Brick was a low performer with the 5D3. To be honest I never even thought about it or even did any research. I've always liked the performance of the Brick with my other bodies. Maybe I will do some research. What have you decided to do?

OP, there is no IF.

Once you put it into consideration, you will buy it...

Love my 24-70 2.8 II, even after moving to medium format and selling off all my Canon lenses, the 24-70 II is the only lens I kept along with the 5D2.

Here's an old pic of one of my friends that I keep around to show people the insane contrast of this lens in back-lit situations, this is better than many primes IMO. also, the best sun stars.

Shame that, IMO, Canon is dropping the ball on camera tech, I'd love for Canon to make a camera that can full utilize this lens. If Sony is good on their word with regards to AF speed and I get the benefit of stabilization, this is the ultimate normal zoom hands down.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.
