I've been using the new Google Photos on my iphone for a few days, and I must say it's really cool. I'm thinking of putting all my 3TB photos to there for easy sharing, and also as my secondary backup. Just not sure if there's any privacy issue. What do you think?

A couple major things to remember:

1. If you want the "unlimited storage", your photos will have to be under a specific MP size (either 15 or 16MP) or else they will be compressed to fit (and you'll lose some data from your pictures).

2. Google owns the right to use your photos in any marketing efforts for its services (although they have stated they won't do this without asking).

3. Google can decide to change their TOC / storage capacity / billing model at any time.

I got the impression that they may compress in #1 even if the images are below 16mp. I did put a bunch up in the High Quality mode and they were all under 16mp and they didn't count against my Google Drive quota. That also meant they didn't get compressed. Later I switched to the Unlimited mode for those same pictures. They report the same size, but I have no way of knowing if they compressed them or not.

This is not bad so long as you don't care the whole world may potentially see and steal your photos. Bear in mind that the whole world probably doesn't care about your photos anyway :) Upload away. I've use Flickr to share.

Beware of" easy come, easy go". Since you didn't pay for the storage, Google can take away the service (or start charging) later at their whim.
