It's been so long since I've shared the local nuthatches I thought I'd go ahead with a few images of the Brown-headed too. These are native mostly to the Southeast so many may not have seen these smaller cousins of the White-breasted.

1. On the lookout.

7. Apologies for the feeder pole. No graceful way to remove it and the image was just too cute.

I've seen some recent reports that the population of Brown-headed Nuthatches is in decline. They're certainly still in good numbers in my area and it'd be a shame to lose their squeaky little call that always makes me think they're laughing at me......maybe the are! Thanks for stopping in and checking these out.

Another beautiful set! I have never seen this variety. I think we only have the white-breasted ones here. They are beautiful birds. I have a few that I see frequently here but they are all of the white- breasted variety.

Sharp-looking set! Seems like they're full of personality like the other nuthatches usually are...

Your mighty kind Rog as always! We try not to hog this species, but they just don't like to leave the southeast :-)

Your gracious comments are always wonderful Carol! These guys are about the same size as the Red-breasted which I think inhabit your area.

Haha Jeff, you'd have to come way further South than your Northern paradise to see these. Maybe one day my friend!

Thank you Mike! As we often see, the smaller the bird the bigger the personality; these are no exception.

Great shots, Steve, of a bird I've never seen. I'd wager they are as fast as their cousins though. Well done.

Most certainly an awesome set Steve! You really did get a nice variety of poses too! Are they as tiny as the Red Breasted Nuthatch?

If not a little faster Al! Thank you as always, and as I mentioned above you'll have to travel severely South to find these.

I always appreciate your kind comments Sandy, and yes, they are almost identical in size to the Red-breasted you have.
