It's not surprising that I've never heard of this one. What is surprising is where I found it.

Several months ago I moved from near "The D" to my original sleepy home town, population about 4,000, in the middle of Michigan. Wednesday evening I went downtown, which is two whole blocks long, & there in front of me was a group of about 40 cars. Classic cars. And there in the middle of them was Jamie & Shelly's 1929 Mercedes Gazelle. Whodathunk it? So I had to grab some shots of it.

1. Jamie & Shelly are from an equally small town just 7 miles away. They said that they have a lot of fun with the Gazelle.

A beauty.

Nice find & photos Frank. Imagine how it felt driving that when it was a new car.

I didn't see the motor, hear it run, or ask the right questions, so I'll have to wait to find out if it's a real one or a kit as in the link in the first post.

Didn't notice the link, but even if it's a kit car it would be a nice ride that would turn heads. Not the same as the real thing when new but still a head turner that would be exciting for the owner when first hitting the road.

I tend to agree. The purists hate them, but you don't have to mortgage your children & can have a lot of fun driving them. I do question the choice of a VW motor, though.

With a British registration SK09 it was first registered as a new car between 01 March 2009 and 31 August 2009 at the Edinburgh licensing office. So pretty sure it's a kit. I guess that you can get away with those highly illegal number plates using the car in rural USA.

Michigan only requires back license plates, so we can put anything we want on the front. Some guys use a old plate that was made when the car was new.
