What will I see in the EVF if I does a long time exposure (ex. 30s)?

Will there be a difference between a7r and a7r II?

If my question is unclear, let me know. Thank you.

i haven't tried that long yet but I'm sure if u look away from the evf it will revert to the lcd if u have it set up that way,or if u have evf only it will stay on while it completes the exposure, not sure exactly what your question is

I don't know if anyone has had enough experience with the mk2 to give an idea of differences between the two.

you will see nothing.

the screen will go blank(on my a7s at least) and when it takes the shot it will process it and view it on the live view screen

i think a further 20 seconds or so.

this is what happens.

you press the shutter and it will display the evf and live view blank for 30seconds while it takes the shot.

once it takes the shot there is a text that get displayed in the live view saying processing... and that takes around 20seconds or so before it then displays the result.

I am not sure why it does this because on my 400d and 5d3, once it takes the shot it displays the results instantly.

EDIT: actually it may be because i selected my camera to record both jpg and raw.

I don't know for sure but it might also be creating a dark image frame to subtract noise from.

Its no different than what you experience on a canon body. On a canon the lcd goes black during the exposure (if live view was on) and you can't see anything through the optical viewfinder. On the sony the lcd goes blank during the exposure and so does the evf.

On both the canon (using live view) and the sony you can set the exposure to 30 seconds max (before bulb) and see the exposure simulation on the screen before you press the shutter button.

Two systems, same experience

In terms of user experience, it is too early to tell if there will be any difference between a7R and a7R II, but in terms of image quality I think the a7R II will be much better. The a7R suffers from hot pixels in long exposures. Sony claims to have fully solved the problem on the a7R II.

For long exposures the thing I have really enjoyed using is the Fotodiox ND Throttle. It is a Canon-to-Sony-E adapter that embodies a 1-10 stop variable ND filter. It makes the long exposures a little more enjoyable and easier. Here's my workflow: 1. Set the camera in aperture priority mode. 2. Open the ND Throttle to it's brightess position. 3. Set my focus point. 4. Dial up the ND until I achieve my desired shutter speed (in aperture priority mode it adjusts automatically). 5. Take the picture.

There is a touch of magenta cast to deal with, but no more difficult to deal with than the blue cast from the Lee Big Stopper. The only catch is you have to pre-set the aperture on your Canon lens - the Throttle does not permit any aperture control.
