I am thinking of using these mainly with my Canon 350 D camera, any thoughts on which is best?

The Tamron VC system will not work while panning using a shutter speed below about 1/500s. Although many wildlife/BiF photographers will be quite happy using those shutter speeds, there are a lot of situations where it can be necessary to pan while using significantly lower shutter speeds. I am very often at shutter speeds of 1/160 or slower when shooting many aviation subjects. At those shutter speeds the only option for the Tamron is to turn the VC off. The Sigma has a panning mode (Mode 2) which allows the use of the OS at any shutter speeds while panning.

Choderboy I like a long knob More info | Jun 16, 2015 21:51 | #5 I'd go with Sigma. Extra features a plus. Even more significant is I'm in Australia and I can easily travel to the distributor / repair centre and my limited experience with them has been positive. Dave

I have yet to see anyone really go from the Sigma to the tamron but I have seen a bunch make the switch from the tamron to the sigma. So how do you get some fact the Tamron is better? They are both priced the same as well" Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

He gave the reasons he chose the Tamron, and did not say it was better (or worse) than the Sigma. The only place is says the Tamron is best is if you are talking $1K. In the next line if you spend more then the Sigma is better. Cost is the same!?! The Sigma is almost a grand more. So if you think they cost the same, either you are paying too much for the Tamron, or I want to know where you are buying the Sigma.

The Sigma is the better lens IMO, noticeable better AF in low contrast situations and the customization via the USB dock is very useful. No regrets whatsoever in changing from the Tammy to the Siggy 'C'. TOP BIRD SHOTS
