Hmm, an interesting range. Even narrower range than the 18-35 DC and and slightly slower too. I wonder what it would add over the 24 and 35 Art primes aside from zoom flexibility. If it fixed the coma issues of the 24Art that a lot of night sky shooters were disappointed with, it'd find a good market I guess

Too limited of a focal range. It'd be more exciting if they released a 24-70 f2.8 ART

I think a 30-55, or so, would have been more useful.

There was a lot of similar criticism when the 18-35 was announced but it seems (to me at least) to be a very well regarded lens for APS-C bodies. I'm willing to wait an see how this one performs. Keep in mind that this is a DG zoom lens with a constant max aperture of f/2.0, not the 2.8 that the other companies seem to limit themselves to

I think it's an interesting idea, but I don't know that I believe the rumor. A 24-70 2.8 Art is already rumored/expected, and this 24-35 would be an overlapping niche lens. A 24-70 2.8 will retail for around $1200-$1300, right? This 24-35 would probably retail for more because of the f/2 (maybe not)? It just seems a lot riskier for Sigma to produce than something like the 18-35 and certainly riskier than a new 24-70 2.8.

The 18-35 is an equivalent field of view of 28-56 on full frame. If they made an f2 28-56, that would be amazing. A 24-35 is much narrower, IMO.

I imagine this type of lens would be useful for events, a 35-70F2 would be great for events.

Yeah....24-35 is more of a landscapers focal range, and for that type of shooting, there's little value in opening the aperture up to f2.

Whoa, that developed quickly. And it's spec'd at 33.2 oz! There aren't yet any announcements or speculations about price.

As tempting as this is, I really struggle with third-party zooms because they rotate "backwards" from my Canon lenses.

That might be a dealbreaker for me. :(

weird, i was going to say my sigma zooms rotate the same way...but then i looked at the picture of this lens, and it is definitely the opposite...

This was the first Sigma I've seen that doesn't zoom in the same direction as Canon lenses. It made me think the lens was a hoax until it was officially announced.

If the lens gives similar sharpness to the Sigma 35mm Art, and lens correction profiles are made available for Sony/Canon/Nikon bodies, it'll be an interesting lens for sure.

Don't think of it as a zoom lens. Think of it as a way to carry a 24 f/2, 28 f/2 and 35 f/2 in the same space as one lens.
