So here is it. I'm selling my 5DII and decided i'm getting a 1DIII again.

I have found some great prices but i'm now starting to wonder... If it were you would you:

a) Get One 1DIII and buy another battery with the left over money?
b) Get TWO 1DII and not have extra money but have more than enough spares anyway?

I mainly shoot motorsports / sports and have a 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 and a nifty.

*No i'm not interested in the 7D, 6D etc, these are the options i have narrowed it down to.

Having used all the cameras that you mention I would save a little longer and consider a used 1D4.
From your post you have already had a 1D3 so you know what a 1 series can do. Compared to the 1D3 the 1D4 just does more and better. The AF is faster and tracks better - on motor-sports I would expect you to have very few (if any) out of focus shots - except perhaps for the odd crash. It will give far more detail for larger prints and the ISO performance is at the very least 1 stop better for poor light.
The 1D4 is available at quite reasonable prices these days and it is still one of the best sports/wildlife cameras available.

Between the two options, 1D3. I'd not even consider investing in 1DII's as they are, IMHO, too old now.

What I would really do though is buy a 1DIV, which is what I did.

Yeah, the 1D4 would be nice but I can't afford it hence the choice of the mk2s or the mk 3

If the 1D4 is simply out of reach then the 1D3 is still FAR from shabby!

I'd definitely go 1D3.

My 1D2 is still with me, and it played back up for a few years while the 1D3 had star billing.
Now it just looks good on the shelf.. I'd not go back.
