one of the sites i have used for lens research is slrgear.com - in addition i used dxomark.com

the thing that impressed me about the lens while researching is that at F5.6 it has an amazing profile at every single FL - at F4 it is similar in the center but the corners are softer - but the center is tack sharp at F4 and it is a big center

I was hesitant to buy a 24-105 after reading all the complaints about distortion, resolution, etc. etc. but a fellow photographer urged me to just buy it. I shoot sports, landscapes, portraits, you name it - and this lens is just fine. Admittedly, I don't use it on a 5Ds but it's nice to know that I'm not compromising my (imagined) hardware limitations by using it. :-D

Kudos to anyone who knows what it is a picture of! LOL

these are off the charts good

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

2 panos from today - stopped the car on a bridge you are not suppose to stop a car on (this is looking at downtown Toronto in the distance)

1) 5DSR 3 picture pano with a Sigma 24-105 at 24mm, F8, ISO 100 handheld

2) Sony A7Rii 4 picture pano with a Canon 17-40L at 20mm, F8, ISO 100 handheld

I shot the Canon in manual at 1/500 - made sure not to overexpose the sky. Shot the Sony at 1/200 to 1/300 as mistakenly I had it in Shutter Priority. The panos, because they had different exposures, were processed differently as the trees in the foreground were quite underexposed with the Canon.

Here is the uncropped 5DsR Macro 100L IS 1/200, f/7.1, ISO400 handheld The more interesting thing is the cat can blink faster than the flash and the shutter can catch. Out of 10 attempts only 1 had her eyes slightly opening.
Second shot is 100% crop ISO 400 1/200 F/11 Handheld 100mm L IS

Theye are just so sharp for handheld its not funny...great shots!...

ANother quick question...I notice one of them was shot at iso 2000. Out of interest is that image cropped much or is it near full size....Reason I ask is there looks to be very little noise which suggests to me you didnt need to crop much?

Regards

Clipper
