Theye are just so sharp for handheld its not funny...great shots!...

ANother quick question...I notice one of them was shot at iso 2000. Out of interest is that image cropped much or is it near full size....Reason I ask is there looks to be very little noise which suggests to me you didnt need to crop much?

Regards

Clipper

It is not a full frame image but quite a bit cropped one ( see the actual capture below). I Used DPP4.3.1.1 to process my images with fine detail picture style and standard NR setting. No additional NR applied.

..Thanks for the info ..It just goes to show how good this camera is given you cropped a fair amount and the image was still sharp and showed very little noise etc......especially when shot at ISO 2000. Also helps me look at my shots knowing most of the image IQ especially subjects like birds is dependant on my technique rather than any camera shortfall :)

Also Interesting that the great wildlife images posted up here and in other threads is contrary to everything the so called expert reviewers were saying this camera wasnt suited to( Wildlife, sports etc)...Infact for me the penny dropped ( about 5DSR suitability for wildlife photography ) when I realised the 5DSR had exactly same pixel density and size as 7dMk2..Apart from the 10FPS on the 7DMk2 there wasnt any other real difference between the 2 except the 5DSR had a bigger FF sensor. So I figured if the 7DMk2 with its high "on target" pixel density could shoot great wildlife shots so could the 5dsr! Yet reviewers of the 5DS/R were saying 7dMk2 was the best camera on the market for this sort of photography( Bird/wildlife/sports) and 5DSR totally unsuitable!..and that the 5dsr should really only be used on a tripod and was only good for either studio environment or outdoor landscapes again on a tripod and not handheld!. . Well all I can say to the reviewers that said that is take a look in the various threads here and they will see they were totally wrong! :)

...not only that, I find the 5DSR AF, metering and a number of other things better than it's predecessors. Steady, reliable and matured. Though people harp on things and say it's just a such and such with a bigger sensor, they either have a vested interest, may be a bit short on intelligence, can't afford it or haven't really used it. That said, I don't care, I've got mine. :-D

I got a 1.4 extender today to add on to my 5DSR and 100-400ISMK2 and whilst I was expecting a hit on the light ( losing a stop) I was also worried about the big hit on sharpness.. Well the results from my short test shots today are outstanding......The 1.4 with this 100-400 is every bit as good as people have reported throughout the web. This thing is sharp as a tack and to my eyes there was absolutely no loss of IQ or sharpness with it on. All I saw was a little bit more chromatic aberration and that was easily fixed with lightroom.

Below is a test image I took at the 140mm end of the 100-400ISMk2 with 1.4 on. This image is a shot of an iconic neon sign ad from the 50's that is at end of my street. For those interested its called "Skipping Girl"....after the brand Skipping Girl Vinegar

The second image is a 100% crop of the 550mm end of the lens. Sharpness is good as is contrast color etc .

Basically having this 1.4 on the long end of my 100- 400mm now not only gets me extra optical reach ( and with cropped mode its like having a long end of nearly 900mm! ie 550mmx1.6=880mm ) but also means that Im not having to crop into the 5dsr image as much as I previously did when I fell short of reach. Not that was ever a problem it just means that I get farther away from a 100% crop which tends to show noise at the iso 1200 onwards when at the 100%.

Gorgeous, David. How is 'retirement' suiting you? And your new home? Hope both are all you wish from them.
