hmmm, doesn't look any better than what I get out of my 5D3!

Resize one of your 5D3 images to 50 MP, and then show a 100% crop of the resulting 50MP image.

If the most you're going to magnify an image is 100% pixel view at the original resolution, then a 3.1MP EOS D30 will give better results than the 5D3.

I didn't say 5Dsr in that sentence, because even though it has smaller pixels than the 5D3, and much smaller pixels than the D30, the lack of an anti-alias filter means that it may have even higher pixel contrast than the D30, with a sharp-enough lens.

thats the point...this image has been enlarged to over twice the size (at 100%) of a MK3 and still looks ok. Especially given no sharpening or noise reduction image at 100% crop............. At a 100% as a print this image would be approx 1 meter in size at 240 dpi..or twice the size+ of a Mk3 print and lstill ook the same in IQ. .Now take a 5dMk3 image of same subject at 100% enlargement and then enlarge to 240%(approx size a 5dsr image is) and then look at it. It will be all pixellated and blurred.... ..This is why this camera is great for people who crop a lot and still want reasonable large image.....Also works the otherway in regards to reducing image size. As you get smaller in an image noise becomes less apparant....images also look sharper......So if you start large as in 50 megapixels high IQ and work to a smaller size image( say 25 megapixels) you still get a super high IQ at this smaller size. ( 25megapixels of data)

Your math is off. The % of enlargement is one-dimensional, not two-. A 22 MP image enlarged to 240% would be 127MP; not 50MP. The correct enlargement would be about 150%.

My calculations are a lot more simple (a lot will not like it, but no need to throw stones at me :-P )

Roughly ...
5DS R VS 5D3 = Double amount of pixels = double amount of details = double the size of the print.
5DS R VS 5D3 = Double amount of pixels = double amount of details = half cropped picture = longer focal for the same quality

All images shot at f/1.2! Definitely makes my lens seem sharper!

What teleconverter are you using?? I would have expected much better results from that camera and lens combination..
Please don't take offence but that first shot especially, looks like something taken with an entry level crop sensor camera..
Can you post some without the teleconverter being used?

I am surprised by the direction the thread is going. Not the sort of images I imagined that people would be taking with a 50.6 MP sensor.

David, just out of curiosity, what kind of images were expecting?

I thought that we'd be seeing a lot of landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, etc. The types of high-detail images that can benefit from 50.6 MP. Not that there is anything wrong with photographing a few leaves and unsharp portraits with a 5DS R. :)
