Have a wedding tomorrow and turned on the camera with a 24-70 took one photo and the lcd display was blank with no photo on the back screen. Turned it off then on but no screens appear.

Had to remove the battery and re-insert took one more photo same thing no screens and will not take another photo.

Tried another battery same thing so it appears my might 1DX is a dead brick. Only 12000 firings. Not under warranty either.

Can anyone with a 1DX shed some insight into this problem?

I have a 5D MKIII for tomorrow so my butt is saved but this failure of the 1DX really bothers me!

Sorry to hear about that. Could well be the pcb as mine (and several others I know of) have had the same problems and the faulty pcb was the cause. You might try asking for a goodwill repair from Canon if it is the pcb based on a failure from a known fault. That's the route I'd try anyway. Good luck.

Thanks I am afraid of what this might cost, will call Canon monday and either drive it in or ship it. How much was it to fix yours and what was the known fault?

Mine was fixed under warranty so unfortunately I don't know the cost. I know that others on this forum have had similar pcb failures on their 1Dx's, a search should bring in a few results.

If younare in the UK, and because the 1DX is so expensive younhave 6 years warrantynunder our consumer laws.
They will initially reject that, just ask for the address of the registered office and the name of Canons Company Secretary to send the small claims writ to and they will bottle.

Even if they dont see them in court - they will bottle as soon as they discuss the case with their lawyers.

Isn't there a small claims or consumers advocate you can consult with before the lawyer that? Lawyers don't seem very efficient for this sort of thing

I have a 1DS2 that went into limp mode, was still taking pics but no other function, ie was in manual, could not adjust aperture or shutter speed.
Removing button cell (and putting the same cell back in) resolved it.

Good points Submariner!
Most people in the EU don't know about this and the manufacturers/importers are not in a hurry to tell their customers!
