I know this doesn't compete with harissa's (Aaron's) fine photograph, but I thought I would share one from today. I almost missed it by being late. Left the Atlanta area late, hit traffic, and after driving over an hour, arrived at my location with about 4 minutes to spare. Just had time to set up, focus once through live view, adjust settings, and wait 40 seconds to fire the camera. I didn't even have time to connect a wired remote.

I believe it may be slightly out of focus. Or maybe, the high ISO comes into play. Looking at Aaron's settings it looks like the Bader film may let in more light, which would be helpful. I was hoping to try using a 1.4 teleconverter this time, but time didn't allow.

Also, Aaron was very helpful to me a while back in answering some questions. Thanks, again!

... And a question for some of you astronomers: Is there a telescope in the $500-$800 dollar range that would give me more resolution than my 100-400? I'm talking more focal length and maybe not so much light gathering (I know this goes against traditional thinking). I'd mainly use it for Solar and Lunar transit shots.

Great capture. This is something I'm hoping to try too this week (weather permitting).

Nice photo sandwedge. You need to get your speed up and use high speed continuous shooting, an intervalometer or a computer and backyard EOS. Keep the aperture wide open DOF doesn't matter on shots like this. ES makes good achromatic refractors (doublet) and their customer service is outstanding. If you can afford the apochromatic (triplet) you'll get better results and have a wonderful astronomical telescope. PM me if you have any questions or want to check out my Lunt wedge on a ES127 or my Lunt 60mm H-alpha telescope. The wedge works like your filter but is on the back of the scope and allows 'white light' photos like you need for the transit. H-alpha is a very different view. Check my post 'h-alpha and white light from 6-22' .
