My Galaxy s4 was recently upgraded - I don't know the version name though - and DSLR Controller still works.

My question is why EOS Utility only works on WIFI with phones? You can cable in with laptop, why does Canon not make it more universally available on phones? It makes no sense.

I agree
i know there is a software for android that works with usb cable
a friend of mine uses it with 5d mark 2

canon 5d markII,24L & 24ts , 35L ,17-40L,24-70L,70-200 2.8ISL,50 1.4,85 1.4 , canon eos 3 ,eos 5 ,t90 , ae program and some very sweet fd lenses
3 analogic Hasselblad and 2 anologic Mamiya

it doesn't support my OnePlusOne (Cyanogen); I bought the app and realized it doesn't work, emailed the app developer to get my money back and boo, not a word from them.
So doesn anyone know what app will work on mY 6d, 5d3 and OnePlusOne?

I recently bought DSLR Controller from the Play Store. It works perfectly on my OnePlus One (Cyanogen) and my 70D. I have all the latest "over the air" updates, so running Android 5.0.2 and Cyanogen 12.0. Absolutely no issues and it is extremely useful and useable using an OTG Cable. DSLR controller was practically lag free (only around 50-100ms lag between moving the camera and seeing the effect on screen). Over Wifi things got slightly more laggy, but still very useable for most applications.

On the other hand, I tried the latest version of qDslrDashboard since it is newer and actively maintained, but it turned out to be unusable, even in wired mode (I didn't even bother trying WiFi). VERY laggy (around 800-1000ms) and very jerky (around 2-3 fps refresh rate), totally unusable for anything but totally static shots. I was quite surprised as I'd seen videos on youtube of it working nicely, although not on a OnePlus One. So maybe it does not play nicely with the OnePlus One and/or 70D.

DSLR controller here too, but with a twist. I use it wirelessly over wifi using a hacked portable router. I just followed the instructions found here:

http://dslrcontroller.com/guide-wifi_mr3040.php (external link)

It takes a small amount of geekness to set it up, but not too bad. Once it's working, it has worked flawlessly (for me anyway). Now I am no longer limited to the length of my usb cable. The one downside is that if you choose to download an image to your device it is significantly slower than using a USB cable.

On a side note: Oddly enough my Nexus 4 is not on the compatibility list and does not work over usb, but works perfectly over wifi. Something to do with the USB hardware used in the phone being non-compatible. However, since the wireless setup does not use the usb port it works perfectly over wifi. Some of you with other devices that are not on the compatibility list might have similar luck.

edit: I should point out that this works with any compatible camera, not just the ones with built-in wifi. Basically, the mini router adds wifi to your camera externally.

Yep, the Nexus 4 lacks USB OTG support, hence the "incompatible" status with DSLR Controller.

Nonetheless, there IS a way to enable it on the Nexus 4, but it involves rooting the phone and using an OTG Y-cable to get around the hardware limitation.

Probably not worth the hassle though :)
