Adding date to pictures on an A610

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot a610 and am having trouble having the date stamped on pictures. For some reason the date stamp is only an option in postcard mode. Is there a reason for this seemingly arbitrary restriction, and is there a way around it? I don’t believe that I am the only person that would like to have my pictures dated, what do other people do?

Thank-you ahead of time for any help.

edit: I develop my pictures at www.winkflash.com (external link) and not on my own printer if that makes a difference

Hi there,

I own an A620 and although I have not used the date stamp mode I recalled that when I was first reading the manual there was something about a Postcard Date Stamp. I went back to my manual and it looks like it is only intended for postcard mode. It is clearly stated and I am sure the same applies to the 610 because the manual I have is an A610/A620 manual. It can be found on page 33-34.
I do think they should have just made it so you can turn the feature on and off regardless of mode.

I don't see how much of a necessity the stamp feature is really. If you simply cannot remember when you took a certain picture, you can just right click on it, and go to properties and view the exif data which has the date and time the shot was taken.
Just my $.02

We actaully get our pictures developed and put them in photoalbums. Clicking is not possible, but in 5 years we would like to know when the picture was taken.

Some online print services, like shutterfly.com, allow you to customize the text printed on the back of the print.

After selecting the pictures you want printed, you can easily add the date from the EXIF yourself. Start ZoomBrowser -> Select the picture you want to add a date to (or make a copy first and work with the copy) -> Right-click on the picture and choose 'Edit Image' -> Choose 'Insert Text' and press Finish

You can now define the area on the picture where you want any text added. If you want to add the date as registered in the EXIF, just choose 'Import Shooting Date/Time"

This is a much better solution since you can choose the area of the picture where the date will be printed.

@ gunthermoose : See? No need for other software. You get it all from Canon ;-)a (Though Exifer is a nice tool)

Is there any way (using Zoom Browser) I could add the text representing the date to a batch of photos in the same font in the same place on all the selected images? Editing every image individually is very laborious.
