I was playing with a friend's Nikon 70-200 2.8 and notice the lense has a build in rotating ring collar. I am wondering if there are any third party rotatable ring collars that fit on the canon 70200 and are affordable (i.e. <50usd).

I assume you have the f4 version as the f2.8 come with them. The canon one is about $100 or so but there are 3rd party brands on e-bay for just a few dollars. No idea if they are very good and I wouldnt trust them but they are out there.

not my auction nor do I endorse it:

I am looking for a rotating ring - not a static one. The type for which you can turn the camera 360 degree once mounted on a tripod/monopod.

This looks like the one that came with my 70-200 F4L IS when I bought it used. Worked very well for me for a couple years and was still going strong when I sold the lens with the collar attached.

What good wouod a static one be? They all rotate and you can get a third party ring for the 70-200 f4, look on amazon or dealextreme.com
