Hi all,
So i have been hunting for a part for my new camera (hope to be getting it next week) and have managed to find it but the shop want £15 for the part. It's the TOE cap (par number: CB3-3599)
Is there anywhere people can recomend to get it from that isn't stupidly expensive for a tiny screw in piece of plastic?

dunno what the exchange rate is, but uscamera have them for only US$7.03 plus shipping...
otherwise, just use a bit of gaffer tape.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I went with gaffers until I found a "cheap" one. $5 on Amazon from China, link no longer exists. Took almost 2 weeks, is definitely not OEM. Markings are a little different and the plastic material itself feels a little different, harder shiny compared to the more matted and maybe slightly softer Canon one. Fits fine. Dont know if there is a difference in watersealing capabilities. Justed added it to my pre-outing routine, i.e. battery level, memory cards, stupid cap...

I lost both of mine and ended up getting them from Canon parts, they were something like $3 each. So, I ordered a few extras for the future. I also ordered a new set of LCD covers and the tape/gasket for them. The whole order came up to somewhere around $40. Nice part was that both cameras looked brand new afterwards.

This "stupid cap" was a very well known issue right from the get go with the 1D3. Mine came off the first body in about a week. fortunately the first time I found it, and replaced it in a way that was 'unlikely" to wiggle lose. It stayed on until Canon finally swapped that body for a new one 2 years later.
Sadly, I had by then forgotten about the "Stupid Cap", so my first time out with the replacement body I lost that cap.

Never thought about it again, and sold it without even remembering it was missing.

So you used it with the port just opened to the world? I've never run into the need to shoot in the rain, yet, but I was concerned about potential issues when shooting in mist, blowing sand/dust, etc that I just used some gaffers.

So I shouldn't be too worried then, will definitely make sure I have a plug in it before I use it in heavy rain!
