Jumping Dolphin

I was on vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida yesterday. In the morning, I saw several dolphins feeding just off the beach. I grabbed my camera and was happily getting some dorsal fin shots, when one jumped completely out of the water. He jumped 3 more times over the course of a couple of minutes. I was fortunate enough to get this shot:

Yes, getting focus was the hardest. I missed it on the next jump. There's just no way to know where the next jump will be.

Thanks. Yes. 7D and 100-400. I'll update the photo to show settings.

Edit: It was shot at 275mm. The image is pretty well cropped.

Excellent shot!!! And the boat on the horizon just adds to it....very sharp, excellent composition. That image is better than most of the images you see on the state of Florida's tourist brochures, advertisements, etc.,.

This is a wonderful shot. I would put this one on my wall if I had shot it, hopefully I can get some good shots like this when I go.

Awesome shot! Sometimes the right things come together - right gear, right location, right light - but it's always the awareness and anticipation of the photographer that gets forgotten. To you it might seem like a lucky shot, but there are years of preparation, decision making, and investment behind it.
