Thanks John, having owned a couple of big white primes in the past (300/2.8 and 500/4) I know this lens is not up to that sort of quality but as a lightweight and relatively cheap (£899) walkabout lens it is darn good value for money.

EF 400/5.6L is where I put my money. Absolutely zero regrets on one super-fine lens! Sharp (including wide open), and lightweight, so it is a great lens you can take anywhere. No compromise on image quality. It is a great BIF lens too, with a very fast-focus and lock-on time.

This 1st year (immature) male Summer Tanager was shot in shade, at only 1/200 (on tripod) @ 6.3, ISO 1250
