hey all.

I am aiming to slightly increase the size of my current stealth reporter 300AW
I am interested in carrying a bit more in the body of the bag
Ideally...the 5d3, 100-400ii (soon to be aquired), 16-35is, 24-105, 600 ex rt and 70-200 f4IS (possibly the 2.8 II)

i can't tell if 1.) enough space; 2.) if it would be not too heavy as is and therefore to get a backpack.

no need for space for computer.

it would be nice to have the ability to also add the 7d - but not a necessity.

any ideas? is magnum overkill? is the stealth reporter 550 or 650 prohibitively heavy?

thanks

I think any bag that will handle all of the above gear will be heavy regardless of the bag. I have the 300 Stealth Reporter and the 550. They're both excellent. I sometimes will pack out the 550 with sandwiches, books, a couple Speedlites and one lens or so (the rest in a carryon Pelican) etc., for a plane trip and then use the 300 on location. It will squash down in your checked luggage without a problem. I would order the 550 from B&H or Amazon and if it doesn't work for you, return it.

thanks for that.

After I got the 100-400, I don't see how I would be willing to haul what I so blithely noted above. I am really enjoying the 100-400, but it is large and heavy!! :)

I may have to try to come up with a different strategy than my shoulder!

cheers

See if you can find the Lowepro Deluxe Technical belt and harness on ebay. The present version at B&H and Amazon is not supportive of a lot of weight, but this older model is excellent. It's what I use in the field. It's sold there as I just checked by phillyphotosupply. There are not many left; the belt is available but not the harness. This model has thick padded shoulder straps unlike any of the more recent models.

You can carry most of the gear in pouches on the belt, with the camera on an Optech strap through the shoulder strap D ring. In the Galapagos, I've carried two cameras with lenses attached on the shoulder straps and other gear such as a speedlite, water bottle, and another lens or so on the belt for four hours withtout shoulder pain. I have two of these harnesses, one put away for when or if the other wears out.
