That would be one way to do it.

Actually, this is the way I adapt it (Third picture in the link):

http://www.wildpicture.com …ography/teleconverter.htm (external link)

no loss of image quality, a 1.26x teleconverter focal length boost, auto exposure is retained in the Av and P modes, and I have to focus manually.

Not a bad compromise for the cost savings.

Next up: FD 800 f5.6L, followed by the FD 400 f2.8L - then I'll have it pretty well covered.

Have Fun,

Rick

Oh yeah, another bonus: I get to use the 300 as well as my other long FD glass on my F1 and A1, both of which I deeply cherish but don't use much since digital took over.

Have Fun,

I lucked out - the lens arrived with some sizeable marks in the front element (which is really just a protective element, not refractive). They didn't want to come off with a microfiber lens cloth, but a squirt or two of R.O.R. and they were gone in a flash. I'm still left with some minute marks on the front glass, but not bad for a 20-plus year old lens. If necessary I can have the front glass polished or replaced.

Not bad - a 300mm f2.8L for under $300 - I'll take it. :) By the time I mount it up with the FD/EOS converter I'll have a 378mm f3.5.

Have Fun,

Rick

That's an amazing deal considering any L even in FD mount rarely goes for less than $500. I've been keeping my eye out for a great deal on an FD 24L, 35L, 50L and 85L, but I'm pretty much done with film. Sold off all my AE-1 accessories and I plan to just use my AE-1 plus 50 f1.4 on rare occaisions when I'm bored, which means my 35-105mm will be up for sale if you're interested. ;)

I sold my 35-105 a couple months ago, and it was bittersweet - it is the best walkaround lens I have ever owned, 24-70 L included. But I don't use the film stuff much anymore and most of it needs to go. The only reason to bring along my F1 & A1 is the compatibility with the long glass, and a little nostalgia. I used to salivate over these lenses when I was shooting film, and actually used some of them on loan from CPS at several races. Now the prices are so good it is hard to ignore them, and I'll sacrifice autofocus - I manually focused for years.

Have Fun,

Rick

ROR is the name of a lens cleaning solution. It stands for Residual Oil Remover, and many folks think it is the best cleaning solution for Hoya filters. In my case it removed all of the noticeable marks on the glass. What remains are some tiny scratches like from lens cleaning over the years. As long as I use the hood to keep the sun from striking the glass I should be fine.

I have some FD lenses that I can't seem to get rid of for that same reason. We should compare them sometime and you can actually tell me what to do with them. I have the F-1 and it's been a long time since I've taken those out for a shoot. The FD lenses are so heavy and big, but so wonderful for the use they had. I almost cry everytime I use my REBEL G because it is so slow compared to my EOS 3, but that F-1 is one great camera and I won't give that up.

They'll have to pry my A-1 and FD glass collection out of my cold, dead fingers. :)
