So, this is my first year shooting weddings. I actually did Carrie & Ashley's engagement photos a year ago! These 2 are actually the ones who talked me into doing weddings in the first place! I was hesitant at first but they said that they loved working with me for their engagement photos and would not stop until I said yes.

These are only a couple of the early teasers I edited for them. I will post more later though! Regardless of how you feel about the recent news of legalizing gay marriage in the U.S., how can you not be happy for these two?! The amount of love these two have and show for each other is undeniable and I am happy for them!

Enjoy! Also, I am open to any pointers you may have. :)

Alot of emotion in the photos...nice job!

Looks like the reception had some neat decoration, but the background is pretty dark. Subjects are lit ok, but maybe a little extra light in the background from an off camera flash, or a bump of the ISO might have helped.

But that's being nitpicky. I'm sure they love them!

Thanks! I aim to capture emotion! Not a fan of posed shots. :)

The background of #4 and #8 was brighter but I selectively darkened that area because (in #4) there was a person behind the flowers on the left and (in #8) i did the same to the right side of the image because there was a woman in a hot pink shirt! Seriously!? lol....She stuck out like a sore thumb and I didn't want to crop it anymore. I agree, it's a little dark for my taste too. :)

They seem a little washed out and your framing/composition to me seems a bit odd.. Also not a fan of the kissing shots

Framing in any particular one or all? Ive been on the fence w the "washed out" look myself. Something ive seen ppl doing and the clients like it so I thought Id try it. But I hear ya.

Thanks for taking the time!

As far as framing goes...at least in these preview photos...most of them are pretty centered. #1 is my favorite of the bunch, and coincidentally...the subjects are off center toward the left edge of the frame. Plus more context with the guests and ceremony area visible as well.

The kissing ones aren't my favorite either...something about them...maybe the angle? The spark between the couple is captured well in some of the other photos...no problem as far as that goes!

Ultimately...the client's opinion matters most...other photographers feedback is usually going to be based on far different factors.

The framing on the kissing ones and number 2.. They seem to be taking up too much of the frame and not enough of the background..

I actually try and steer clear of kissing shots altogether, especially on close ups. Puckering, smooshing of the lips, saliva etc is not romantic.. However it seems to be a go to pose as in "I'm not sure what to tell the client so let's make them kiss" :)

I agree about the kissing...usually too much mashing of face. If I'm looking for a kiss shot, I'll usually tell them "just a peck" or "kiss with the tip of your lips" or whatever seems to convey the message of - I'm not looking for you guys to swap spit for this photo.

The pre-kiss can deliver as much romantic feel...without the contorted faces. I normally tell one of them to "tease him/her, but don't kiss until I tell you"

I definitely see what you are saying. That's what I don't like about the "first kiss" shots. Often they are smashing their faces together and it just looks awkward. I will have to remember the "just a peck" thing for next time.

I actually had to ask these two to STOP kissing because they just kept kissing during the photos! They do have this thing where they like to put there foreheads together and stare at each other which I like. I eventually just let them do their thing and kept shooting. They were so happy they just didn't care who was watching. I'll be editing the rest soon and post more of my favs!

Thanks again for taking the time!

I like these. I don't like the framing on #6, looks like two floating heads. Other than that, I think you did well :)

lol thanks! There are many more. I just picked these quick for them to post for the big news about legalizing gay marriage. They wanted to be able to share these last week as one of the "firsts" to be legal that day.

This is all good feedback though as I still have to edit them all! Ill keep all of this in mind when editing the rest :)
