Pretty much decided ( so long as the promised discount materialises ) everything but, which Graphics card should I go for.

Basic Specs :-

K2200.
RAM 4 GB GDDR5
Memory Bandwidth 80 GB/s
Cuda Cores 640
Memory Interface 128 - bit £399

K2200.
RAM 4 GB GDDR5
Memory Bandwidth 80 GB/s
Cuda Cores 640
Memory Interface 128 - bit £396

K620
RAM 2 GB DDR3
Memory Bandwidth 29 GB/s
Cuda Cores 384
Memory Interface 128 - bit £142

Both do 3840 x 2160 ( 4K )
Main use Photoshop Elements 12, with Portraiture Plugin, Cannon DPP4.
5DIII and 5DS R Raw files.
Later maybe ad hoc. Premier Elements very basic video editing

The most likely system

Hmm toss a coin?

The 2200 has twice the cores, but Premiere is the only application that will potentially make use of them.

As programs make more use of GPU acceleration over time, you could start seeing the faster card making performance returns, but who knows, it could be obsolete by then as well.

If you go with the cheaper card, maybe you can put the funds to get Adobe Lightroom instead of having to suffer with Elements and DPP.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

None of the software listed, including Premier Elements, makes any use of the GPU, so get the one with the connections on it that work with the monitors you want.

As you were advised in numerous other threads, get the cheapest card you can that has Display Port out (just about any card on the market does and will run 4K for stills easily).

Get the most expensive one.
That seems to be your past decision making.

The overkill is only due to the superb discount I can get through a past contact. It will work out to with a £100 of the cheapest i7 4790K system.mhence ai want a real quality chassis and processor. Buying the Ram built to order gets the big discount - whereas adding it later is at commercial rates. Hence that swung me.

Regarding the GPU card for still only I would absolutely go for the K620 but as one gets into video in the future I wonder if I will reget it.

Does Premier elements not off load some of the processing when rendering?

If you ever plan to use dual 4k monitors go with the K2200, If you will never need more than 1 display port go with the K620.

I still think that's sort of rabbit hole logic... a top spec i7 is "only" $150 more than a top spec i5, a GTX 980 is "only" $150 more than a GTX 970, etc...

But it's your money, burn it how you want to, just don't expect us all to think you're doing it right or to stop giving you the advice we think is.

You say you do video or will in the future but don't specify what. Most GPU's (even low end ones) will have no problem playing back and doing basic cuts and edits of 4k video, it's not until you start really asking more out of it by doing rendering that it could become an issue, in which case... cross that bridge when you come to it. IMO you're building a 50ft bridge to cross a 10ft stream.

Appreciate your input. And see your point about the complexity of video and the impact on the selection of a graphics card.
