Well in my quest to get a replacement editing machine, I thought I would get hold of my old contacts.
To cut a long story short, I used to own a company supplying mobile data solutions to big companies with large workforces - so we were placing regular orders for 200 to 500 + high specced, durable laptops like £2,000 customised Toughbooks etc.
I sold out 6 years ago, but was surprised how nice some of my old contacts were. In short I may be able to get other members trade plus prices on top gear.
No I am not recommending anything yet.
One distributor specialises in Graphics, CAD and Systems to production video companies - so have some serious expertise.
In a nutshell, they are going to help me spec and configure and tune some top of the range HP kit. And they have intimated they would have no problem selling more systems at fantastic prices. As I am not going back i to another startup - it would just be a referral and you buy direct from them.
Its early days yet - but this will be at amazing prices if it comes to fruition.
Just thought I would mention it - in case you were about to press the button on a new editing workstation or a 4 K screen.
Naturally I wont recommend the solution until a) I have had their experts refine my preferred system and b) I have actually tried out their recommended solution. They are definitely one of the top UK outfits in this area.
Ideally I would love to know if that old photoshop benchmark is still current , so its not just my subjective opinion emotional view of how it performs, but it is backed up by real world statistics.
If any one is interested let me know.
Sorry but its UK only.
