Canon came out with a list of lenses that are recommended to be used with the 5Ds And 5Ds R. As such my guess is they will not be updating these lenses (hopefully) in say 3-5 years?

Source: http://cpn.canon-europe.com …dsr_recommended_lenses.do (external link)

- I corrected one typo... namely the EF200mm f/2L II USM to EF200mm f/2.8L II USM
- Marketing year was added by me
- Canon's recommendation could indicate lenses that are not expected to be updated within 3-5 years?

Also gives a slight hint at lenses that WILL be updated to work well wit the new bodies. (I'm hoping for the 35L II mainly)

Good to see the compact macro holding in there... I suspect that some time in the past someone wrote the wrong number on a production order, and they have a pile of them sitting in a warehouse somewhere (along with the 'full size adapter') ;-)a

No TS-E45 in the list, so perhaps the next TS-E to get an overhaul...

bye for now

Was really hoping for a new/updated 50mm option in the next year or two.

Why not get the Sigma 50A?

I think you are making an assumption between two unconnected things. The list of preferred lenses for high megapixel bodies doesnt have any direct correlation to canon's marketing plans.

I'm more inclined to believe that there was some interaction between marketing and the creators of the list ;-)a

Why? The list seems to be a technical exercise. Wholly seperate from where canon might find the biggest profit selling lenses. So few of that line of bodies will be produced compared to the other lines that I ratther doubt ita driving the R&D bus.

I rented one and to make a long story short, I wasn't impressed with the AF accuracy/consistency.

Because there is nothing announced though Canon that does not have some marketing input...

Interesting now some folk pap on about old lenses not being capable enough for newer sensors, yet canon have a 28 years lens in that list.

Working for a major corporation...

There's no way this is separate from where Canon will make the most profit selling lenses. I guarantee this went through sales, marketing, supply chain, and everyone else who might have the slightest interest.

I wish it were a backdoor to listing lenses that are about to be replaced, because I'd love a new 28-300L.
