So, I'm hoping that this is covered by my warranty. I last used my camera a few weeks ago at a sprint car race, I haven't used it since then and went to take photos of tonight's full moon moving between the clouds the camera itself wouldn't turn on. I figured the batteries were dead from not being used..

I charged both of the batteries until they were fully charged, I tried both batteries and still no joy. I figured that I'd try taking out my memory card and swapping out the lens. Still no luck, the camera itself doesn't display any errors... It just doesn't turn on like a power supply went bad, anyone else having issues similar to this?

*edit*

I did upgrade the firmware to the latest version the day it was released and hadn't had an issue.

Both the battery door and card door have micro-switches in them that disable the camera. Open and close both a few times. Maybe something got stuck.

Just checked it, its the battery micro switch, I'm confused as to how this happened. I was looking in my camera bag and found a small piece of plastic, I've had my battery grip connected for about a month now and have used the camera since and all of a sudden last night it just didn't work. This is the first time I've had one break in 6 years of owning a DSLR.

Looking at the tiny piece its not jagged like it was snapped or fractured but just fell out from improper gluing? Not sure how its made but that would be my guess.

What steps does anyone reccomend for fixing this? Thank you for the answers.

I am not sure from your description exactly what the problem is. Can you buy a new battery door to fix the problem? I am afraid if it is not the door itself, that you may have to send it in. Perhaps there is a local authorized repair center.

EDIT: Does it work with the grip NOT installed, grip installed, or neither?

Doesn't work with the grip installed but if I put the piece of plastic that broke off back into its slot and press down it works. I'm confused at how this micro piece of plastic broke off while my bag sat at the edge of my bed waiting to be used.

The little small piece of plastic I speak of is the part in the camera that gets pressed down by the grip or battery door when you close it.

Update.

The plastic part doesn't belong to the camera thankfully but somehow broke off of the battery grip. Very thankful its the grip and not the camera.

So the camera is working fine? You just (like its my money?!) need a new grip, then? Perhaps some superglue?

Bit of panic set in LOL.. that much money and it didn't work kinda got my heart racing a bit. Amazon is actually exchanging out the battery grip for a new one, I'm thankful that the issue is solely with the batterygrip and not the camera itself. :).

Thanks

Eric

Glad you got it worked out quickly, and not too much hassle. Happy shooting.
