The Vulcan bomber retires later this year and there was a flyover close to home so I decided to go out and try and capture one of its last moments.

The lens used isn't very sharp - the sharpness (or lack of) in these images is what persuaded me to go out and buy my first L glass - the 70-200 2.8 Mk2 that should be arriving next week!

Thanks :)

I actually took 211 photos in the 3-4 minutes it was over us (and boy - you can really feel how powerful it is!) but my PC died as I finished editing and uploading the 3rd image - once the replacement power supply arrives, I'll hopefully be able to process some better ones!

When I passed out from RAF basic training at RAF Swinderby (14 Dec 83) we had a Vulcan for a flypast aircraft. I guess we were lucky, as some intakes only got a DHC1 Chipmunk T22 from the Air Experience Flight.

Quite interesting to hear from people about when this aircraft was still active!

Thanks for sharing :)

My abiding memory of the Vulcan was at an airshow in the late 70's or early 80's when the pilot pulled up from about 250 feet in a half loop, and then half rolled off the top! I didn't actually get to see much of it when it did the flypast for my passing out parade, we were all stood there at the Present Arms and none of us dared to look up at it.
