I sold all of my camera gear awhile back and have really regretted it ever since! So, I'm looking to buy another camera. I would like to get another 5D3 but I'm a little concerned about spending the money on one with the 5D4 coming out in the near future. What kind of price drop will the 5D3 see when the 5D4 comes out? Would it be wiser to pick up a cheaper camera for now (maybe a used 7D) and wait for the 5D4 to be released?

Who knows when the 5D4 will actually ship. Rumors were flying for years about the 7D2 and with the 5DS(R) just shipping in the past few weeks (after being officially announced in Feb), I wouldn't expect a new release in this series until next year at earliest.

Were I you I'd look at a refurb 6D. At $1099 it's more than a used 7D but you get a full frame sensor, removing the dilemma of which lenses to buy, and a 1 year Canon warranty.

I'd pick up something stupid cheap like an sl1 as long as you're not shooting professionally and wait for the 5D4. The 5D3 is a great camera ergonomically, but the sensor wants in some areas. Don't waste your money on a 7D unless you need the frame rate.

Canon has already dropped the price on the 5D3. No telling if and when the 5D4 will be announced, but Canon tends to not reduce the price of the previous camera that much. They'll introduce the new camera at a higher price. The 5D3 may not have the MPs or DR as some other cameras, but it still has top notch ISO and overall quality.

I concur, but it's a strange habit from me that I keep buying cameras have been out for a while, only for weeks after, a new body is released. I hope that since buying my 5D3 recently, that it will be a year until the 5D4 is released

Great deals out now on the 5D3. If the rumours are right the new 5D4 will be 28 MPS and no 4 K video. Hmmm not so enticing.

Personallly if I had zero investment today I would get a Nikon 810 - and go that Sony Sensor route,
I'm OK staying with Canon, as i amlocked in with lenses and speedlights etc.

^^^What dexy101 said!^^^ Go with the MkIII, the Mk IV might be great, and it might be here soon. Might. The question is, are you willing to wait and will the extra 6mp and potential extra features be worth the wait and possible extra cost?

Here you go.
A 7 page long discussion I had opened 1 month ago about the exact same thing, get the 5d Mk3 now or wait for 5D mk4.
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1426655

Eventually I ended up getting the 5D mk3 2 weeks ago.
Best decision in my photography life, ever !

I too got the 5D Mark III about a month ago and am very pleased with the decision. It opens up new low light worlds compared to my 7D. Great deals at the usual places. I would imagine a new Mark IV will be at least 1K more than a new Mark III for a good while after it's release.

Seeing as how Canon rarely if ever gets to a mark iv for any camera, its safe to assume the 5DS IS the 5D mark iv
