Hi all,

So Nikon Announced about this lens, it is somehow like a combination of 16-35 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8 or 16-35 f2.8 and 24-70 f4 IS but they extended it to 80mm instead of 70mm and made f4.

What a lens regardless of the picture IQ, i want to get one, if i will use it on my Sony then i need an adapter anyway, but on Canon i really need the adapter then i don't know how will be the focus, but for this lens i don't think i will shoot more with AF speed.

So, what do you think about this lens? When will Canon reply to this terrific lens?

which Sony do you have? keep in mind this is an APS-C (DX) lens so if you have an A7x you'll have some heavy vignetting

I would just get it for a D7200 or something. Not sure why you would want to adapt one to a Sony camera if you lose autofocus. It's neat, but niche for just having a small sized high IQ lens. Much better deal/focal range than Pentax's awkward 20-40mm f/2.8-f/4 lens that retails for 700-800ish at least, so I think it fills that niche very well. If size is not an issue, the 24-120 f/4 ED VR on a D750 would do the same job a little better, but I am aware size is the selling point here.

I am not thinking about my Sony A7R, but i am thinking to buy something like Sony A6000 or similar newer cropped factor Sony, and also i am thinking to give up my 1D3 and buy 7D MarkII, this lens have somehow that big coverage starting from wide and have f2.8 up to 4, so it is like saving almost 2 lenses for cropped bodies, i already happy with lenses for my full frame cameras, but i am thinking to go back or giving cropped bodies a go too.

ok, that's cool.

This lens is still a poor choice for anyone wanting to adapt to a mirrorless body. No one to date sells a fully electronic Nikon F to Sony E or m4/3 or Fuji mount adaptor. It will be tough to use as you'll be confined to Manual Focus using a focus ring not designed for strictly MF use. You'll also be confined to shooting wide open - the aperture in this lens is driven electronically (similar I guess to Canon EF lenses) requiring again an electronic adaptor.

I buy lenses with Canon mount then i buy an adapter for Sony with Canon mount.

You do realise you won't be able to buy this lens in Canon EF mount?

Yes i know, but i was talking in general about Sony camera when i buy lenses, if it is not Branded for Sony only such as FE then i choose Canon mount as then i can use on 2 brands Canon and Sony, and i know if i buy this lens or Nikkor 14-24 both are for Nikon mount, but aren't there a mount that use for Canon so you can mount Nikon on it?

Also i thought Metabones have a Nikon mount for Sony, aren't they? oh wait, you mean full electronics, so you only care about fully electronics? i really just blind myself about compatibility and use whatever, i have that Vari-ND adapter and this kills the AF and electronic compatibility as you mentioned and i never care, why i would with Nikon then?

Anyway, i just started this thread to get ideas and thanks for the responses, i got the ideas about this lens, we will see when this lens can be sold in markets and what new cameras will be out, and i am not in rush to buy anything including this lens, i always keep asking and gathering information or details then i based my judgement or decision on what i gathered and researched.
