I have a 6D and a 70D.
I use the 70D for video and for wildlife when I need a lot of reach

For kids sports I use the 6D…the advantages of full frame are so much greater than the increased frame rate and reach of the 70D for soccer or baseball

In addition, the low light abilities are critical for any night game or evening with overcast skies

Reach is determined by lens choice not by camera body. If you are referring to crop vs full frame then what you are referring to is a decrease in field of view, not an increase in 'reach'.

Yes I know but I find the only time I get better photos with my 70d vs my 6d is when I'm taking photos of something far away.

I understand that you would probably say that if using better post processing I could do just as well with my 6d. Maybe so but I not that good at post processing at this point.

However the basic point still stands that I use my 6d for kids sports instead of a 70d because the results are better even though the 70d has higher fps and better af.

Rod, I think we're all "lured" by something or other when considering new purchases. Luckily, after using the 6D for a few days, I do feel like I made the right choice, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything (for my intended usage). Hopefully, you can at least make good use of the burst rate, etc. features you do appreciate on the 7dii. My main concern was the focal length differences, and I've decided I LOVE my current lenses on the 6D!

Luxx, low light capability was one of my main reasons for upgrading, so I think that contributes highly to my enjoyment of the 6D. I have previously purchased an EOS M for a "take anywhere/everywhere" camera and the ability to take video clips, but I've had it for months and taken only 1 or 2 video clips, so video did not come into my decision for a new DSLR. I've taught someone with a 70D the basics of photography though, and I was very impressed by her camera. Since you have both, it seems like a great combo!

So far, I've been too busy trying out different settings and situations with the 6D to pull the card out and look at photos on the computer yet, so does anyone know if Lightroom 4 recognizes 6D files? (LR4 does not recognize my EOS M files, so I have to convert all photos to DNG first and I find that annoying.)

I think I have lr5 now which I use occasionally...I'm embarrassed to say that most of the time I use iPhoto...speed and convienance. However I have used lr4 in the past and I don't remember ever having to convert anything though it's possible I went from camera to iPhoto to Lightroom (I know travesty)...though I would have exported from iPhoto as original.

Oh and even with the 6d there were games at night or overcast where the 100-400 was too slow. As the kids got bigger the 70-200 2.8 was not long enough and the 300 2.8 was purchased

I should have mentioned that I'm talking about RAW files from these cameras, not jpegs. Jpegs can always be read, as far as I know. I'm assuming you may be using jpeg only, if you're not too comfortable with post processing at this point. I will have to check if my version of LR will read the 6D RAWs when I get home.

I'm in a position of having kids of any age without going through all the stages in order (foster parent), so I wanted to make sure my camera can handle young kids' everyday photos but also older kids rec sports if all of the sudden needed. The foster son we had for most of the last year played soccer, but luckily no night games at all. However, I know I won't always be that lucky!

So, my Lightroom 4 does not recognize 6D RAW files. I had to convert them to DNG and then import those. I hate having the extra step when I already have trouble getting myself to edit and organize my photos on the computer after capture. Now that I have to do this for my two main cameras (6D and EOS M), I think it may be time to update Lightroom!
