5Dc back button focus

I have been trying to find information on the 5Dc for enabling it to use back button focus. Can anyone point me to the correct information. I greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Yes, every time I read about slow 5Dc AF it tells me they don't know how to use this function and they don't have L lens

Just started using back button focus on my 6D, what a difference.......... Wish I had known the 5D could do it when I owned mine...

After this function, Ive come to realize that I was the one being slow

A word of warning !!!!!!!!!! I love the back button focus especially for sports where the subject is on the move. However, with that said, I find that from habit of continuously hitting the back button, when i go to shoot portrait or something similar, and i focus and want to change position of subject, I have to watch that i do not hit the back button again and change the focus.

You don't have to have an L-series lens to enjoy fast, accurate AF.

You just need a USM lens. Those generally have the best AF performance for still photography. Up to a point, f2.8 and larger aperture lenses are usually faster, too.

Some L, some USM and some large aperture lenses simply aren't designed for fast focus.

For example, the 85/1.2L USM (either version) is not nearly as fast focusing as the 85/1.8 USM. This is done by design, because the shallow depth of field the f1.2 lens is capable of demands precise focus, even if it's at the cost of some speed. Macro lenses are similarly "slowed down" for greater accuracy.

Most Canon SLRs dating back to the film era can do BBF. In fact, I learned to use it with my old EOS-3's and Elan 7E (EOS-33).

On the cameras prior to the implementation of the AF On button on the rear of the camera, it was done in a custom function by reassigning the * (AE Lock) button to start AF instead. This got in the way of using the button for AE Lock, of course. But you have a choice in the Custom Function of full time AE Unlock or full time AE Lock. I always set to "AE Unlock", because it's almost as easy to switch the camera to M and lock exposure that way, for the rare occasions when AE lock is actually needed. It's more problematic to have the camera doing AE lock all the time.

Even after Canon added the AF On button (40D, 50D have it)... if you used a vertical/battery grip on some cameras, you still had to use the "old way" of BBF with the * button, because the vertical grips didn't have an AF On button, even though the camera bodies did.
